More ADVICE! Essays + Why NCSSM

 More Advice!

Essays:

OK, Essays! We'll jump right in. This year's essay prompts can found here. From talk I've garnered from Youtube videos (there are a few good, though dated, Youtube seminars out there.) the general say is not make your essays anything like your resume. Current students and alumni agree on the fact that admission officers already have your EC's. They say that your essays should reflect you; they should let the reader get know you and a deep reason on why you should go to NCSSM. For me, my focus for the first essay question category, would be on my interest in mathematics, computer science and biotechnology. I'm leaning toward answering the one which asks, "Describe a STEM topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?". This is because I'm not exactly sure I'd like research anything, but I want to be able to use NCSSM vast resources to learn more advanced math than what I'd get ordinarily at my HS, get some hands on technology work done, explore my budding interest in biotechnology. I'll post more on this topic later.

Why NCSSM:

If you'd like to know more on why you should go to NCSSM, I'll spell out why here. Well, first, the free tuition to the UNC system grabs a lot of the hype. Next, I could talk on and on, why going to NCSSM as STEM-focused student is probably a better fit than your regional high school, especially if you live in a more rural place. It's the 1# high school in NC according to Niche.com's page on it (it's quite helpful, look at it here).
